Concentration Worksheet
(Due 1st day of school)

The Concentration section should demonstrate an in-depth exploration of a particular design concept. The work in this section should reflect the personal style of each student. When making personal work it is helpful to have a variety of resources for ideas. Think of your mind as a water well, if you don’t fill it up it will dry out! Before starting your six works reflect on the work you’ve created on your own (art projects that were independently created) and any other sketches/doodles you created that inspire you. Answer the following questions based on your personal artwork:
- What is your favorite piece/s and why?
My favorite piece is the boat. I like the boat in particular since the water, my concentration, illustrates how the boat is reflected into the water as well as the ease of the waves. The boat is a great piece to exemplify both nature and architecture.
- What medium/s do you feel most comfortable with? Are there any mediums you’d like to try?
I am most comfortable in watercolor and acrylic. I would like to try oil and block printing ink.
- List three artists that inspire you. (These must be successful, relatively famous artists..do not pick random people on Deviant art, blogs, etc. ) If you can not think of any artists do some research, the following sites are good places to start: MOMA.org, Metmuseum.org, Whitney, Guggenheim
Three artists that inspire me are Carole Holding, Paul Sandby, and Georgia O'Keefe.
- Describe what it is about each artist that interests you.
Carole Holding, a native of Bermuda, has a style of painting island scapes in watercolor medium. I like how she adds both architecture and natural landscapes to all her pieces. Each of her pieces is done in the setting of Bermuda. Paul Sandby does architecture from an interesting perspective as well. Georgia O'Keefe interests me with her upclose paintings which focus on detail.
- What theme and concept will you explore during AP Art? Remember, themes are broad topics: Nature, Portraiture, Social Commentary, and Everyday objects. Concepts are the deeper meanings related to the theme such as, glamorized 1940s jewelry, (this would fit into the theme of everyday objects).
Theme: Islandy-Water
Concept: Abstract perspective on beachy vacation spots.
