The first image is called "Cayambe", by Fredrick Church. This American painter traveled to South America and the Middle East for inspiration for his paintings. Fredrick Chrurch died on April 7, 1900, but his work remained hung in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. At the time, Chruch sold paintings for $10,000; the highest paid amount to an American artist at that time.
The second image is called "Lake Wabagishik", by Franklin Carmichael. I like how this Canadian artist uses surrealism and does this piece in a cartoonistic way. This image contrasts greatly with the first image, which is more realistic and more detailed.
It is really interesting how different your two selections are. I noticed, as you probably did, that the first piece has a great amount of detail, while the second focuses more on shape. I can't wait to see how you incorporate this into your own piece.
ReplyDeleteI really like how different the compositions of your landscapes are. I really like the second one. The bright colors, lack of detail, and angle really stood out to me. It seems as it could relate to your water/island scene concentration too!
ReplyDeleteI like the first piece in that the detail really makes the piece stand out, but in the second piece the colors and shape makes the piece stand out. The two works are completely different, and I feel like you might have a hard time finding a way to incorporate the two into one.
